The population is composed of health care workers in long-term care (LTC) facilities affiliated with Providence Health Care (PHC), located in Vancouver, and who have documented prior infection with SARS-CoV-2 (i.e. outbreak survivors) and/or those who are expected to be offered a COVID-19 vaccine because of their membership in a priority group.

Visit 1 (baseline) took place before vaccination to assess baseline immunity. Information on demographics (age, sex, gender, ethnicity/indigenous ancestry, postal code, education, household description), health status (known Covid-19 infection, testing, hospitalization; smoking; chronic medical conditions; height, weight; flu vaccine status), travel history, occupation, COVID-19-related risk behaviours (mask-wearing, social distancing, public gathering, self-isolation) and COVID-19 vaccine willingness were collected from a survey. Blood samples were collected for detection of the presence of soluble biomarkers of inflammation, antibodies specific for SARS-CoV-2, and antibodies specific to other human coronaviruses; and the examination of cell specimens for general features of innate and adaptive immunity as well as the presence of SARS-CoV-2-specific immunity. Specific data (e.g. clinical frailty scores, dates of prior COVID-19 tests) were collected form medical records (if available).
