The main form for the registration of a live birth is completed by the parents, who are responsible for filing it with the local registrar. Most provinces and territories also require physicians (or other birth attendants) to report all births.

Data Collection Event

CVSB - Survey

Information on the date and place of birth, sex, birth weight, gestational age, type of birth (single or multiple), and area of residence (postal code) are collected. Information is also collected on the parents' age, marital status, birthplace, place of residence, and parity. Postal code information is collected using the Postal Code Conversion File Plus program (PCCF+) for reference years up to 2010.
