Population consists of caregivers of the participants in the CSHA community sample and the CSHA institutional sample.

The third caregiver study compared three groups: caregivers of people with dementia, those with mild cognitive decline and others who were physically frail but cognitively normal. This was primarily a cross-sectional comparison, although some of the caregivers studied previously were again included. The interview with the caregiver collected information on the care recipient’s need for assistance, on the range of people available to provide assistance, on the caregiver's use of supportive services, and on the impact of caregiving on the caregiver’s health and lifestyle.
