The population is composed of individuals of 18 years of age and older, who are HIV-negative and participants in the Stop the Spread Ottawa research project that included people who may have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection, been vaccinated, or both.

Demographic information, COVID-19 history and exposure, health behaviours, medical history (any medical conditions, current medications including vaccinations in the past 12 months and all previous hospitalizations and reasons) and HIV history (year of diagnosis, years of exposure to antiretroviral therapy) was collected. Blood samples were collected. Information about comorbidities, year of HIV diagnosis, CD4 T cell nadir (if known), CD4 count, CD4/CD8 ratio, highest HIV viral load over the past 6 months, most recent HIV viral load, history of opportunistic infection, tobacco smoking and cannabis use history was extracted from clinic chart.
