Data collected included general demographic information (including name, sex, date of birth, home address, zip code, home phone number, ethnicity, years of education, current occupation, occupation before retirement if retired, and permanent residence) and information about daily living (including hobbies, dietary preferences, sleeping pattern, and histories of smoking, consumption of alcohol and tea, and physical activities). Information on current and past history of diseases was also collected.

Several psychological and psychosocial tests were conducted such as the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), Life Event Scale (LES), and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS). Global Determination Scale (GDS), Clinical Global Impression scale (CGI) and the depression and anxiety disorder sections of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM (SCID), as well as the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA), and the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS).

Functioning was evaluated with the Activities of Daily Living scale (ADL) and quality of life was assessed with the Quality of Life scale for use in dementia (QOL-AD) and the Short Form Health Survey (SF-36).

Cognitive function was also assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Neuropsychological Test Battery (NTB) the Hachinski Ischemia Scale (HIS) and the Clinical Dementia Rating scale (CDR).

A physical examination was conducted as well.

Blood samples are collected from all participants. Biochemical tests assessed total proteins, alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, bilirubin, potassium, sodium, chloride, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol, high density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein, apolipoprotein A and B, lipoprotein.
