Supplementary Information

The ATP recruitment was done using a two-stage telephone random digit dialling (RDD) method mapped to Alberta Regional Health Authorities (RHAs). While recruiting new participants in 2009, the RDD method was shortly replaced by the volunteer sampling. Communication and advocating strategies, including the Ambassador Program, media coverage, marketing, advertising, information booths at community events, corporate presentations and articles, were used to promote volunteer recruitment

Data Collection Event

ATP - Phase I

Using the Health and Lifestyle Questionnaire (HLQ), the Canadian Diet History Questionnaire I (CDHQ-I), and the Past-Year Total Physical Activity Questionnaire (PYTPAQ) information was collected about general health, personal medical history, lifetime history, family health history, cancer screening, paps and mammograms, reproductive health, sun exposure, tobacco use, passive smoking exposure, alcohol use, stress, social support, spirituality, demographics, employment status, diet history, fruit and vegetable intake, physical activity, sedentary behaviours, and body measurements. Blood samples were collected.
