The population is composed of Alberta's residents aged 35 to 69 years who had no history of cancer, other than non-melanoma skin cancer.

The ATP recruitment was done using a two-stage telephone random digit dialling (RDD) method mapped to Alberta Regional Health Authorities (RHAs). While recruiting new participants in 2009, the RDD method was shortly replaced by the volunteer sampling. Communication and advocating strategies, including the Ambassador Program, media coverage, marketing, advertising, information booths at community events, corporate presentations and articles, were used to promote volunteer recruitment

ATP - Follow-up

The questionnaire collected updated information on participants’ health, including cancers and long-term health conditions, cancer screening, mental health, quality of life, alcohol consumption, smoking status, body measurements, as well as family health history. Questions unique to this survey include marijuana and e-cigarettes.
