The participants were all adolescents in grades 7-12 in the United States in 1994-1995.

Interviewer-assisted + self-administered in-home questionnaire. The interview was generally similar to Wave I and covered topics such as: health status, health-facility utilization, nutrition, peer networks, decision-making processes, family composition and dynamics, educational aspirations and expectations, employment experience, the ordering of events in the formation of romantic partnerships, sexual partnerships, substance use and criminal activities. Questions about sun exposure and more detailed nutrition questions were added.

Respondent reported their height and weight during the course of the interview and were actually weighed and measured by the interviewer.
